Our Story

From humble beginnings in 1982, The Retreat has been a staple of Cheltenham’s restaurant and bar scene, owned and run by husband and wife team Mike and Lella since the beginning.

Situated in the Suffolks near leafy Montpellier, The Retreat is best known for its food offerings during the day. Our fantastic team aims to provide pub classics alongside a regularly changing specials menu; cooked with a lighter touch to let the local ingredients shine. We are also known for the lively atmosphere in the evening, often with live music and a whole host of events.

Throughout the year Cheltenham has plenty to offer and The Retreat is always here to play host to those visiting, whether it be for a race meet or one of the many festivals which take place.
